Frequently asked questions
Don't hesitate to contact us, if you have any question.
Is it free?
For just a Podfan page, yes! Once you claim your RSS feed, you can customize the color scheme, choose a featured episode, add subscribe links, and more.
If you would like to offer membership, you will need to enter your credit card and subscribe to one of our plans. Once you choose a plan, you can enable memberships, post updates for members, and upload episodes to your member feed.
How do I get paid by my members?
Podfan uses Stripe. When you set up memberships, you will be prompted to connect your Stripe account. If you don’t have a Stripe account yet, you can set one up during this process.
When members join, they become your customers and payments go directly to your account. Podfan just facilitates the access to member-only content based on their payment status.
What does Podfan charge for?
Podfan charges $0.30 per active member per month for memberships that offer access to a member-only feed. At the end of the billing period, the sum of all members you had across all of your Podfan pages is calculated and charged.
For annual memberships, in addition to the per-member per-month charge, Podfan deducts a 5% fee from each member subscription payment. This is because a member could cancel before the year is up, and continue to use their subscription until it expires. The bandwidth used from listeners downloading episodes is the most expensive operational cost of Podfan.
For each transaction regardless of membership type — whether it is a donation or for access to a member-only feed — Stripe charges 1.4% plus $0.30.
What countries does Podfan support?
Podfan supports podcasts in any country. Podfan supports offering memberships in following countries:
- United States
- United Kingdom
- European Union
- Canada
- Australia
- Japan
Since Podfan uses Stripe, you can accept payments from almost anywhere in the world.
How do member feeds work?
Podfan facilitates the hosting, management, and distribution of member content. First, upload member episodes from your dashboard. Next setup a membership that unlocks the member feed.
When a listener subscribes to that membership they immediately get a unique member feed URL for the member episodes that you have uploaded. The listener can subscribe directly to their feed URL in their favorite podcast player. Podfan offers 1-click subscribe link for most popular podcast apps. The following apps all support subscribing to private feeds:
What infrastructure does Podfan have?
Podfan runs on Google Cloud insfrastructure, with Google technologies for performance, scalability and uptime. If you have a lot of fans, that’s great! Podfan can handle it.
